Irish Vocational Education Association

The IVEA is recognised in statute (Vocational Education Amendment Act 2001) as a "body consisting of vocational education committees and recognised by the Minister for the purposes of this Act".

The IVEA is governed by the Association's Constitution which sets out the objects of the Irish Vocational Education Association as follows:

To promote the development of education and training.
To promote the development of education and training and youth work in Ireland.

In furtherance of this main object the Association has the following further objects:

Inform, assist and advise the membership of IVEA in responding to and implementing the provisions set down in legislation of relevance to the VEC sector.
Represent, protect and actively promote the interest of the members of the Association and the general membership within the Vocational Education sector.
Promote and foster concordant action and general harmony amongst members of the Association.
Promote the development and implementation of appropriate education and training policies for the Vocational Education sector.
Contribute, by way of negotiation, consultation and submission to the drafting and publication of legislation which promotes the interests and enhances the development of the Vocational Education sector.
Devise and deliver appropriate education and training programmes targeted at the general membership within the Vocational Education sector.
Devise and organise a number of National/Regional Seminars, from time to time, as may be relevant and appropriate to the Vocational Education sector and other sectors involved in education and training.
Consult and negotiate at National level on behalf of members with Government Departments, Trade Unions and with a range of other relevant bodies and authorities as may be necessary from time to time.
Represent VECs at National level in their capacity as employers and managerial authorities in matters of industrial relations and to represent the general membership on Fora such as Teachers' Conciliation Council, The Teaching Council, etc.
Consult, associate and affiliate with other relevant Bodies on matters of mutual interest on Policy Development, Education and Training.
Subscribe to and promote the aims and objects of any Association or other Body or Agency, with aims that are consistent with and conducive to achieving the aims and objects of the IVEA.
