IVEA Structure
In 1999 the IVEA was restructured to meet the growing needs of the education sector in Ireland. Arising from the enactment of the VEC Amendment Act, 2001 there was a subsequent need to re-assess the structural framework of the Association to more effectively meet both the needs of member VECs and the requirements of a constantly changing educational sector environment.
Accordingly, on the 3rd July 2003 a new Constitution was unanimously passed at an Extraordinary Congress of the Association.
The affairs of the Association are managed under the supervision of the Standing Council consisting of the Officers of the Association, one nominee of each member Vocational Education Committee (who must be a member of that member committee), 6 CEO members nominated by the Chief Executive & Education Officers Association (CEEOA), the President for the preceding year (if applicable) and associate members which may be co-opted from time to time.
Standing Council
Standing Council meets four-five times a year to agree policy position papers and assess the progress of work undertaken by the two sub-committees established following Congress each year.
Steering Committee
Standing Council must establish a Steering Committee which acts as a sub-committee of Standing Council and comprises of the Officers of the Association (for the time being), four ordinary councillors of Standing Council elected by the ordinary councillor members of the council and three CEO councillors of the Standing Council nominated by the CEO councillor members of the council.
The business of the Association is conducted by the Steering Committee subject to such directions and requirements as may, from time to time, be made by Standing Council. The Steering Committee has full authority to act in the name of the Association subject to direction and requirements of Standing Council.
Committee for Executive Support
The business of the Association relating to the executive functions of the CEO and associated issues relating to the fulfilling of executive duties, powers and functions is conducted by the Executive Support Committee and is subject to such directions and requirements as may be made, from time to time, by Standing Council or by the Steering Committee acting on its behalf.
