IVEA remains dismayed at TUI decision on Union Directives
27 September 2010
IVEA today remains very concerned at the TUI decision not to lift their Union Directives affecting parent teacher meetings, whole school evaluations and class size etc.
In particular, school management in the 250 VEC schools and centres of education remain firmly in the clutches of TUI Directives which prohibit discussion on re-allocation of vacant post duties.
While IVEA is anxious that a bad situation is not made worse, our immediate and urgent concern is to secure an end to these Directives which have made local school management extremely difficult.
In fact, in dual-union Community Colleges the TUI Directives will continue to apply to teaching staff in that Union while the ASTI Directives which have been lifted on ASTI teaching staff, no longer apply.
IVEA will be calling on the Department of Education and Skills to intervene to address this serious development as a matter of urgency. IVEA is also writing to TUI to express our concern at this Union decision.
Finally, IVEA is seeking a meeting with the ACCS (representing Community Colleges) to address our common concerns in regard to the operation of the affected schools.
