IVEA Welcomes New Minister To Education Portfolio
09 March 2011
The General Secretary of the Irish Vocational Education Association, speaking on behalf of IVEA's member Vocational Education Committees (VECs), welcomed the appointment of Mr Ruairi Quinn T.D. as Minister for Education in the new Dáil Cabinet.
"IVEA looks forward to working with Minister Quinn. We will be seeking a meeting with him at the earliest opportunity to discuss the role of VECs in the upskilling agenda, which will be an essential part of the government's response to drive national recovery. VECs must be acknowledged as key players in the provision of Further Education and Training," Mr Moriarty said.
"It makes no sense to maintain the current cap on PLC (Post Leaving Certificate) places in VECs at a time when all agree that the upskilling and re-skilling of both the employed and unemployed will be prerequisites for national recovery, and we will be asking the Minister to lift this cap as a priority," he concluded.
