Statement by Michael Moriarty, General Secretary of the Irish Vocational Education Association re County Cork Vocational Education Committee
22 July 2011
Having attended a meeting of County Cork Vocational Education Committee (VEC) yesterday evening, 21 July 2011, I am supportive of the case put forward by the VEC that it should remain as a separate entity in the proposed reconfiguration of VECs. The VEC presents a convincing case in the context of significant enrolment numbers, geographical size, and the varied nature of educational provision.
County Cork VEC will be asking Minister Quinn to reconsider their particular case, and to clarify the criteria used by the cabinet in respect of the reconfiguration of VECs.
The Irish Vocational Education Association (IVEA) is committed to assisting, representing and promoting the interests of its members, and will support County Cork VEC's case, as a valued member of this Association.
