IVEA Welcomes Minister Quinn's Confidence In VECs
12 August 2011
The Irish Vocational Education Association (IVEA) today whole-heartedly welcomed Minister Quinn's announcement that he has instructed Co. Monaghan Vocational Education Committee to proceed to the next stage in the construction of a €35 million education campus, the largest building project to be funded by the Department of Education and Skills this year.
IVEA General Secretary, Michael Moriarty says: "For some time IVEA has highlighted the capacity of local VECs to manage a range of support services. This building project is an outstanding example of how a VEC can deliver on a major building project for the State. I am aware that there has been very significant preparatory work by the VEC Chief Executive Officer, Martin O'Brien, committee and staff, and they are to be congratulated on bringing the project to this advanced stage."
Mr Moriarty concludes by stating: "If VECs are to deliver on the objective of local education authority status then major projects and initiatives such as this can only underpin the value of VECs to the State and to the local community."
