IVEA Welcomes devolution of building projects to VECs
01 November 2011
The Irish Vocational Association (IVEA) has welcomed today's announcement by Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairi Quinn TD, that individual Vocational Education Committees (VECs) are to manage 27 school building projects around the country.
IVEA General Secretary Michael Moriarty says:
This is a major development for the VECs, which will soon be reformed into 16 Education and Training Boards (ETBs). The VECs/ETBs will be able to draw on their extensive local knowledge and long experience of managing key building projects to ensure the timely and efficient development and delivery of these new school buildings and extensions, which will enhance educational provision across the country.
IVEA welcomes the Minister's announcement, which also sees the VECs/ETBs in a position to provide support services such as these, to other education and training service providers in their locality, on request.
