Further Education / Training Provision
While several other providers inhabit the Irish Adult and Further Education landscape, the VEC sector, with arguably more learners than all other providers combined , is the most pervasively significant as it covers the full gamut of provision and embodies the policy objectives for Life Long Learning set out in the Irish government's White Paper on Adult Education as summarised immediately below.
The diagram above provides an overview of what VECs provide in the area of adult and further education and the table at the end of this page provides a statistical snapshot of VEC-involvement in this field. Both of these illustrate the extent to which VEC-delivery reflects the aspirations expressed in the White Paper and they are a testament to the degree to which VECs facilitate the implementation of government policy in respect of the Life Long Learning agenda.
